Case Study:
Mount Druitt Hospital Palliative Care Unit
The best gardens to work in are those that give back to the local community, and over the last ten years we have been lucky enough to work on a number of these types of projects.
The first thought that springs to mind when one thinks of a garden that benefits the community is a green space in a suburban area with herbs and vegetables that create surplus for local residents.
However in this instance the garden space that was rejuvenated was the garden that surrounds a palliative care unit at Mount Druitt Hospital.
The garden had previously been cared for by volunteers, but due to Covid 19 and restrictions on volunteers on hospital grounds we were privileged enough to take temporary care of the garden.
The focus was to tidy the garden hedging and pruning of trees and bushes whilst also hand weeding to create a tidy and private area for patients and their families that needed quiet time, privacy and peace in this area.
The results were created in one day with our full team of gardeners, who also blew down all the footpaths and removed all garden waste from the site, whilst being mindful of those patients in the palliative care unit.
